Litigation is the process that people go through when they have a legal disagreement that needs to be resolved through the civil court system. The person that handles litigation has an education in the law and is an attorney. The different types of cases that are litigated can be tenant evictions, child custody cases, corporate lawsuits, or any other number of legal challenges.
The litigation process starts when a plaintiff’s attorney sends a demand letter to the other party. A demand letter tells them what the plaintiff is alleging as well as what they require in order to not proceed with a lawsuit. Most litigation ends at this point as the parties resolve their differences. If they can’t, the case proceeds to court. At the trial, the judge will hear both sides arguments and then make a decision on who won and what the results of the case will be.
